Tracie Orisko attended Comptia ChannelCon in Fort Lauderdale last week, and we asked her to provide an overview of the event. For those of you who didn’t attend, it sounds like something you’ll want to put on your calendars for next year. This event is free for members, full of great content, and did I mention, free? Take it away, Tracie…

I am back in my office and taking a few minutes with a cup of tea to reflect on last week’s CompTIA event.
First of all…can we talk about the humidity, Florida??! I always forget what is like in Hollywood this time of year and walking off the plane, that humidity slaps me in the face with an instant reminder. The upside – the conference venue was right on the water, allowing a beautiful view as well as the ability to slip out and dip my toes in the water while taking calls or checking emails!
ChannelCon is a chance for us to connect with both service providers and vendors, neither of which were in short supply! 150 vendors in the tradeshow made it a busy place every day with new businesses and old friends stopping by to quote their favourite line from GlenGarry Glen Ross, take a call on the fabulous phone purse (we MAY just be giving away a few of those down the line!) and, more importantly, talk about how Managed Sales Pros can help grow their business. Thanks to the organizers for providing coffee (along with Baileys and Kahlua!) inside the room and to the serving staff for bringing food over to the vendors.
On Monday, MSPros had a two hour breakout session with a group of service providers. We offered two one-hour presentations: How To Hire a Telemarketer, and How to Grow Your Business Through Referrals. The audience was very engaged in conversation and while I originally thought two hours was going to be way too much time, we ended up rushed for time at the end! The Think and Drink lounge was a handy space to finish up conversations.
If you were not there, you missed the most epic game of life-sized Jenga ever to be seen at a conference! There was strategy and skill; collaboration, and competition. Facebook Live and Periscope recorded all the action and when that tower finally fell, the groans of the crowds could be heard clear over in South Beach! From there, it was over to the dance floor or out into the hall to play bear-pong or giant light-bright. Some of your logos looked amazing!
Because the venue was being renovated, the 33rd floor lounge was the place everyone went to hang out in the evening. It was jam packed but those of us who needed some extra space headed outside to watch the lightening show up on the railing. When it started to rain upwards, though, we realized maybe it was time to head in for some sushi! I admit that I stayed up well into “tomorrow” and may have even sung about it with a certain someone from Quotewerks…
I took time at the event to sit down with our Canadian CompTIA peeps and learn more about how we can get value form our CompTIA partnership and I encourage you all to do the same. There are many benefits that I didn’t know about and we have been a member for years now!
All in all, CompTIA ChannelCon was a huge success and I can’t wait for the next one.
